Curriculum

At Ysgol Bryn Hedydd, we plan and adapt our teaching and learning so that children can develop the knowledge, skills and experiences they need across a broad and balanced curriculum.

The Curriculum for Wales is based around four main purposes and learning is planned to ensure that our pupils achieve these to become:

  • Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives;
  • Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work;
  • Ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world;
  • Healthy, confident individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

These purposes are developed across six areas of learning and through developing three cross-curricular responsibilities.

The six areas of learning are:
  • Expressive Arts
  • Health and Well-being
  • Humanities
  • Languages, Literacy and Communication
  • Mathematics and Numeracy
  • Science and Technology

We develop our pupils’ literacynumeracy and digital competency skills across the curriculum in everything that we do. We use ‘real-life’ experiences to challenge and enable our children to make connections across learning experiences.
