Goodbye to Year 4!!!

Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Lees would just like to say thank you to all the current year 4 children for being such wonderful pupils and brilliant sports throughout the year - we have learnt so much from you and beside you.
Good luck in year 5 and don't forget to wave!

Summer Term

Explorers

Through the topic of the Tudors this term, year 4 are learning all about how explorers in this Golden Age, discovered new continents and countries around the globe. These explorers included men such as Sir Francis Drake and Sir walter Raleigh. In fact, the class novel we are reading this term by Michael Morpurgo, is all about Sir Walter Raleigh returning as a ghost to avenge his death, when he had his head cut off for treason!

We have studied Henry VIII and researched why he had six wives! We  were fascinated to find out that he was actually married to his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, for 24 years before he decided to break from the Catholic religion in Rome, because the Pope would not let him have a divorce. So, Henry created his own religion, of which he was the head, called the Church Of England. He then allowed himself to have a divorce and married his second wife, Anne Bolyn. She wasn't so lucky and had her head cut off!
But, not before she gave birth to the future Queen
Elizabeth I who eventually succeeded to the throne of England
.

On 18th June, we will be visiting Chirk Castle near Wrexham to study a Tudor house and how people lived in Tudor times. Check out the web link at the bottom of the page!  Rememeber, as it is a long coach journey, you must take your travel sickness medicine if you think you might need it, before we set off and for the way home !

This is some of the work children have been doing in class.

Children researched the life of Henry VIII and then wrote a recount of his life, making sure they used all the necessary features of a recount text. Can you spot any?

These are the patterns year 4 created to decorate a rich Tudor person's house - they cerainly liked to show off their wealth in Tudor times!

We are using a variety of information sources to help us find out about our topic.

.

Some children are doing research at home and bringing it in to school to help others!
